RCC students receive SECU Bridge to Career scholarships
Several Randolph Community College received State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation Bridge to Career scholarships in a ceremony Monday, Nov. 18, in the JB & Claire Davis Corporate Training Center on the Asheboro Campus. ASHEBORO — Ten Randolph Community College students were presented with $500 scholarships Nov. 18, 2019, thanks to the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation’s Bridge to Career Program. An additional 10 students also received scholarships, but were unable to attend the ceremony in the JB & Claire Davis Corporate Training Center on the Asheboro Campus.
“We’re proud of our students — that’s why we do what we do,” RCC President Dr. Robert S. Shackleford Jr. said. “We’re proud of our relationship with the State Employees’ Credit Union. It’s been a long-term relationship and meant many scholarships for students through the years. Thank you so much for the partnership and for what you do to help our students succeed.”
SECU Vice President/City Executive Marcelo Pariz and SECU Board Member Tara Aker attended and handed out the scholarship certificates.
RCC received $15,000 for 30 $500 scholarships to help eligible students enrolling in BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training), EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Basic, and Therapeutic Massage. So far, the College has awarded 20 scholarships: 12 for BLET, six for EMT Basic, and two for Therapeutic Massage. RCC has 10 scholarships remaining for the spring semester.
In 2018, the SECU Foundation established the SECU Bridge to Career Program to help remove financial barriers for students seeking to obtain state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials through the Workforce Continuing Education Division of their local community college that lead to sustainable wage careers within their local communities.
