Faculty - Adjunct Instructor Course Assignments and Salary Scale

To outline the criteria for course assignments and salary calculations for adjunct instructors

CURRICULUM FACULTY

Adjunct faculty will be paid by the course based based on the rates established by the North Carolina Community College System. The pay will be distributed in 4 equal payments for fall and spring semesters and 3 equal payments for the summer semester. Curriculum full-time faculty who teach beyond the instructional workload policy will be paid according to the curriculum Adjunct Faculty Salary Scale.

Course Assignments

Adjunct course assignments will be made by department heads prior to the beginning of each semester. A course may be cancelled if there is insufficient enrollment or for other reasons deemed justified by the College.

Online Course Development

Curriculum Full-time Faculty - Reduction of teaching workload during the semester preceding the semester in which the course is offered. The reduction is equivalent to the course contact hours.

Curriculum Adjunct Faculty - $300 one-time payment

All materials developed for online courses while the faculty member is under contract or agreement with Randolph Community College is the property of Randolph Community College. Upon completion, developed course material must be submitted to the Director of Distance Education.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

The following pay scale shall be in effect for Continuing Education part-time instructors at Randolph Community College.

  1. Instructors may be paid at a different rate for different classes based upon different related experiences, degrees, and demand levels.
  2. Adjunct instructor salaries for classes with fewer than the designated minimum number of students registered may be paid on a prorated basis.
  3. Raises will be granted only in the Fall Semester or the first semester taught after that.
  4. Raises will be limited to one increment per year and will not be granted unless the legislature approves increases. The salary scale will be adjusted to reflect legislated increases.
  5. Placement at demand level #2 shall be based upon the following criteria:
    1. The course requires an instructor with specialized skills, education, training, certification, or an advanced degree.
    2. Certification of the course and/or instructor is required by an outside agency.
  6. In special cases when highly specialized individuals are required as part-time instructors, salary will be based on individual situations including teacher supply and demand, class size, travel involved, and any other relevant factors. The state maximum guidelines shall be followed in these special cases.
  7. Teacher aides will be paid at the rate of 70% of the base (lowest) salary.
  8. ABE/AHS/GED substitutes with less than a four-year degree will be paid the same rate as teacher aides (70% of base salary).

      • Bachelor's Degree: 5 Points
      • Master's Degree: 6 Points
      • Six-Years: 7 Points
      • Doctorate Degree: 8 Points

        Add 1 point if special licensing is required in area of teaching assignment.

        • 1/2 point per year
        • Additional 1/2 point for every two years full-time at Randolph Community College.

  11. Due to required special training above general instructor certification, to requirements for continuous upgrading of training to maintain certification, and to potential liability, the pay status of the following part-time instructional positions will be calculated by the formula and additional steps on the salary scale will automatically be added.

Online Course Development

All materials developed for online courses while the faculty member is under contract or agreement with Randolph Community College is the property of Randolph Community College. Copyrighted or proprietary materials are excluded from this agreement. Upon completion, developed course material must be submitted to the Dean of Corporate and Continuing Education for review and approval before the course is offered online.
