"Dr. Ram" receives national DAISY Leadership Award
Randolph Community College is celebrating Dr. Ramesh “Dr. Ram” Upadhyaya — a medical provider with Crossroads Treatment Centers and Theoria Medical and an adjunct instructor at RCC — who has received the DAISY Leadership Award by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) and the Center for Correctional Nursing.
“Dr. Upadhyaya exemplifies the spirit of Randolph Community College’s mission — providing access, opportunity, and excellence,” RCC President/CEO Dr. Shah Ardalan said. “Having nationally recognized, award-winning faculty like Dr. Ram instructing our students, while keeping higher education accessible and affordable, demonstrates what makes RCC exceptional. We deliver high-quality, career-centered education that changes lives and strengthens communities.”
This prestigious national award recognizes healthcare professionals who demonstrate ethical, values-driven leadership and foster compassionate care environments. Upadhyaya was celebrated for his outstanding work in addiction medicine, primary care, and nursing education — as well as his ongoing mentorship and advocacy in the healthcare field.
“Dr. Ram is deeply respected and admired by his students,” Health Sciences Department Head Tami Goins said. “His commitment to excellence in teaching and mentorship makes this recognition truly well deserved. We are grateful that he continues to share his expertise and passion for learning with our Medication Aide students at RCC.
Upadhyaya currently teaches in RCC’s Medication Aide course, an online program designed for current Nurse Aide I professionals seeking to expand their skills and career opportunities. The course equips participants with essential knowledge to safely prepare and administer medications while understanding the legal and ethical responsibilities of the role. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to take the NCBON/NNAAP Medication Aide Certification Exam, a valuable credential for advancing in the healthcare field.
Enrollment is now open for RCC’s Medication Aide course, which can be completed entirely online in just four weeks. To register, students can visit http://rccurl.com/med_aide, come to the Welcome Center on the Asheboro Campus, or contact Health Sciences Program Support Specialist Debbie Adams at 336-328-1752 or dradams@randolph.edu.
