College welcomes Lisa Carlson as Vice President of Student Success

Lisa R. Carlson, M.B.A., has been hired as the Randolph Community College's new Vice President of Student Success, effective Oct. 1.

Randolph Community College proudly announces the appointment of Lisa R. Carlson, M.B.A., as the College’s new Vice President of Student Success, effective Oct. 1. Carlson brings more than 15 years of experience in higher education leadership having led transformative initiatives that set institutional records for student retention, graduation rates, and support for all students.

“Lisa’s depth of experience and passion for student success align perfectly with RCC’s mission and our commitment to Access, Connection, Experience, and Success,” RCC President/CEO Dr. Shah Ardalan said. “As we continue to expand opportunities and remove barriers for our students, Lisa will play a key role in ensuring every student has the support they need to thrive. We are excited to welcome her to the RCC family.”

Most recently serving as Associate Vice President for Student Success at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Carlson led efforts that transformed the student experience on a STEM-focused campus. Under her leadership, the institution saw significant gains in student retention and graduation rates, including record highs for first-generation students and students from historically underserved backgrounds.

“I am honored to join Randolph Community College as Vice President for Student Success,” said Carlson, who is a first-generation college student and a community college alum. “I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, and leadership team at such a pivotal time to expand access, strengthen enrollment and retention, and foster an environment where every student feels supported, empowered, and prepared to achieve their goals. I am equally excited to integrate into the very fabric of this community and to work alongside its members to help shape a brighter future together.”

Carlson has a history of building comprehensive student support systems, launching innovative advising models, and leading strategic initiatives that enhance access. She is currently completing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of South Dakota, with research focused on advising culture and student persistence.

Carlson’s appointment reflects RCC’s ongoing commitment to fostering a student-centered environment and advancing its strategic priorities under the RCC 2.0 vision: Relevant, Career-centered, and Committed.
