Randolph Community College’s Radiography program recently received two significant grants totaling nearly $1 million. Pictured from left to right are 2025 Radiography graduates Daniel Dockery, Lydia Davis, Trinity Hatchel, Key-Leigh D’Amore, and Kristin Wyrick at the department’s pinning ceremony, held Thursday, May 8, in the R. Alton Cox Learning Resources Center Auditorium. The group was recognized for taking first place in the North Carolina Society of Radiologic Technologists Annual Quiz Bowl Competition.

Randolph Community College (RCC) is proud to announce it has been awarded two significant grants totaling nearly $1 million aimed at bolstering its Radiography program and expanding access to critical healthcare services in Randolph County and beyond.

Thanks to a prestigious High-Cost Healthcare Start-Up Grant of $500,000, RCC launched a brand-new Mammography program this summer. This program provides essential hands-on training in breast imaging using innovative technology, addressing a growing community need for accessible breast cancer screening and diagnostic services. Designed specifically for certified radiologic technologists looking to advance their credentials, the program includes classroom instruction and clinical experience. An additional offering starts in August — making it flexible for working professionals.

“As an RCC student, I learned how important it is to provide accurate exams, which, if not precise, are detrimental to our patients’ care plan,” said Kay-Leigh D’Amore, 2025 Radiography graduate. “This was made possible by the passionate instructors who guided me through the entirety of the X-ray program. Taking part in their Mammography course will allow me to serve the women in my community by ensuring safe yet accurate practices. I look forward to making a difference in this field.”

In addition, RCC has been awarded a High-Cost Workforce Program Expansion Grant from the North Carolina Community College System Office for $400,000 to further develop its respected Radiography program. This grant will enable the college to modernize its training facilities, increase enrollment capacity, and better equip students to meet the high demand for radiologic technologists across the region.

“I chose RCC because I wanted a fresh start,” said Trinity Hatchel, 2025 Radiography graduate. “I decided to go to school an hour away, but it turned out to be the most rewarding experience yet. The Radiography program set me up to succeed in my career and as a person and leader. The program was hard, but to have a job before I even graduated speaks a lot of our program. I have watched myself and my classmates evolve into capable, confident professionals, and I know that is because the RCC Radiography program holds us to high standards that make us stand out and excel as Radiologic Technologists.”

As the healthcare sector continues to face staff shortages, RCC’s expanded program will play a vital role in bolstering the medical imaging workforce pipeline in North Carolina.

“At Randolph Community College, we don’t just respond to workforce needs — we lead the way,” RCC President/CEO Dr. Shah Ardalan said. “As a leader in healthcare workforce development — with a 100 percent nursing pass rate for four consecutive years — we welcome this investment to expand and extend our services. These grants allow us to invest in top-tier healthcare education while directly addressing the critical needs of our community. By launching the Mammography Program and expanding Radiography training, we are empowering students with life-changing skills and ensuring better access to essential diagnostic services for all. This is what RCC 2.0 is all about — Relevant, Career-centered, and Committed.”

These efforts reflect RCC’s strategic imperatives of Access, Connection, Experience, and Success (ACES) by expanding educational opportunities and improving public health outcomes throughout Randolph County and surrounding areas.
