Student and employee IDs approved for voting by N.C. State Board of Elections

Randolph Community College student and employee identification cards have been officially approved by the North Carolina State Board of Elections for use as valid photo identification for voting in the 2025 and 2026 elections.
This decision further strengthens RCC’s role in supporting civic engagement. During the most recent election, RCC’s Martha Luck Comer Foundation Conference Center served as an early voting site — part of a countywide effort that saw more than 12,000 voters cast their ballots in just the first three days of early voting in Randolph County.
“This is another important step in removing barriers to the ballot box for our students, employees, and the community,” RCC President/CEO Dr. Shah Ardalan said. “We were honored to serve as an early voting site and are proud that our campus IDs can now be used to make voting even more accessible.”
RCC joins dozens of institutions across the state whose IDs meet the requirements outlined in North Carolina General Statutes § 163-166.16. The approval means that RCC-issued IDs can now be used statewide as valid photo identification when voting in person or by mail.
As required, RCC will also provide students with a copy of or link to the State Board’s Voting as a College Student guide, which outlines eligibility, registration, and voting methods in North Carolina.
This recognition aligns with the College’s ongoing commitment to Access, Connection, Experience, and Success (ACES), and its RCC 2.0 priorities of being Relevant, Career-centered, and Committed.
