Randolph Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), Beta Theta Rho, welcomed 58 new inductees during its Spring Induction Ceremony on Saturday, April 26, in the R. Alton Cox Learning Resources Center Auditorium on the Asheboro Campus. This celebration marked the chapter’s 26th year and its 22nd consecutive year maintaining prestigious 5-Star status — Phi Theta Kappa’s highest level of achievement.

Led by PTK advisor and English/Communication Instructor Clark Adams, the ceremony featured words of inspiration from chapter officers, alumni, and RCC President/CEO Dr. Shah Ardalan.

“We aim to develop the whole student — beyond academics — by fostering leadership, service, and fellowship,” Adams said, as he praised the new members and the chapter’s legacy.

Guest speakers included 2023 RCC alum and PTK member Carrie Johnson, who encouraged inductees to get involved and give back, and Ardalan, who celebrated RCC’s recent national accolades and honored PTK advisor Adams for 15 years of service with a pin and an engraved brick on the piazza surrounding the JB Davis Bell and Clock Tower. Spanish Instructor and PTK advisor Dolores Vargas Benevides was also recognized with a pin for her 5 years of service with the organization.

“What impresses our community most is the character of our students,” Ardalan said. “We are proud to celebrate these scholars who not only represent academic excellence but also the spirit of service, leadership, and commitment to something greater than themselves. RCC’s future is bright because of students like them.”

The formal induction concluded with a reception for students and their families.
