Thanks to the Pirate Promise, RCC students will have a smooth transfer process to East Carolina University.

Randolph Community College recently became official partners in the Pirate Promise with East Carolina University. This means the application fee will be waived for admission to ECU when the student finishes their degree at RCC. The Pirate Promise application is due by Nov. 1.

“This collaboration represents a significant opportunity for our students to access a high-quality education and broaden their horizons,” RCC President Dr. Shah Ardalan said. “Through the Pirate Promise, our students will have a clear and seamless pathway to transfer to ECU, ensuring that they can continue their academic journey with confidence. This partnership reflects our commitment to providing our students with the best possible opportunities for success.”

Other benefits of the Pirate Promise include:

  • Guaranteed admission to ECU with a completed Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS), Early Childhood Education (AAS), Industrial Technology (AAS), and Nursing (ADN) degrees.
  • A dedicated transfer coach,
  • Joint academic advising and financial counseling,
  • Access to career services and ECU Libraries,
  • Eligibility to purchase an ECU 1 Card ($10) to get access to athletic tickets, campus recreation opportunities, campus events, library resources, and the Online Writing Center,
  • Participation in select campus activities including “invitation only” Pirate Promise events at ECU.

Dr. Ben Novak will serve as the college transfer advisor for traditional Associate in Arts degree- and Associate in Science degree-seeking students, those students, as well as Randolph Early College High School (RECHS) and Career and College Promise (CCP) students will still be advised by the faculty in their programs.

Students must be enrolled in RECHS, CCP, or be in their first year of community college enrollment prior to applying for Pirate Promise. RECHS and CCP students must be in their junior year. Students must commit to full-time status (a minimum of 12 semester hours) at RCC, unless they are enrolled in RECHS or CCP, and have a 2.5 GPA that does not fall below a 2.0 while in the program. Students must complete the degree requirements at RCC for an AS, AA, AAS Early Childhood Education or Industrial Technology, or Nursing degree.
