Randolph County Partnership for Children Executive Director Lisa Hayworth was sworn in as the newest member of the Randolph Community College Board of Trustees on Thursday, July 20, in the Martha Luck Comer Foundation Conference Center as the Board held its first meeting since newly-hired President Dr. Shah Ardalan started his tenure at the College. Reynolds Lisk was elected board Chair, replacing long-time member F. Mac Sherrill, and James Gouty was elected Vice Chair.

Reynolds Lisk, left, was elected Chair of the Board, replacing longtime member F. Mac Sherrill. The meeting was also the first for new President Dr. Shah Ardalan, right.

“I see a bright future for the College and the county,” Ardalan said. “I’m blessed to have such a great team.”

Hayworth, who replaced John Freeze as the Randolph County School Board’s appointee, is a former RCC employee who has worked as the College’s Chief Examiner for the GED program and the Director of the Archdale Campus.

“It’s a terrific honor,” she said. “I’m a great fan of the College, and I’m a big believer in the community college mission. I love that it’s always focused on excellence. For many students, it’s a second chance, and that’s so important in life. I also love that — coming as a representative with my position at the Randolph Partnership for Children, which is the beginning of the educational continuum — I now get to play a role in this end of the other really important part of education.

“I’m super excited. I love the fact that I’m coming in at the same time as Dr. Ardalan. I pledge to be very intentional about my service.”

Before Lisk took the Board helm, he presented Sherrill with a plaque honoring his years of service as Chair. Sherill, who will continue to be a Board member, started his tenure in 1997. He is also a member of the Association of Community College Trustees and the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges.

Lisk then took his seat next to Ardalan.

“I want to thank all of you for voting and putting me in this position,” he said. “I take it very seriously. I promise you I’m going to do the best job I can do representing this college.”
