Minority Male Mentoring Program

Inner Strength

The goal of RCC’s Inner Strength 3MP (Minority Male Mentoring Program) is to increase the retention and success rates of minority males by demonstrating the essential values of scholarship, determination and persistence and reinforcing these through a series of experiential activities.

Activities and Services

Inner Strength offers three major program components:

  • The Academic Enhancement component features peer tutoring, exposure to and information about campus resources, study skills workshops, financial aid workshops, academic monitoring and early alert, math skills lab, writing center and intrusive academic advising and retention/ tracking system.
  • The Character/Leadership Development component provides program participants with an opportunity to be mentored by the program coordinator; receive motivation from guest speakers; participate in community service activities which will include but not be limited to mentoring students at Asheboro and Eastern Randolph High Schools; and have exposure to four-year colleges and universities, including meeting with admissions departments, student support services and fraternities. Additional activities include participation in minority male conferences at other colleges and universities, involvement with the Randolph County Latino Coalition, attendance at RCC student government meetings, and participation in RCC student government community service activities.
  • The Career Development Component includes a shadowing program with a professional in the student’s college major, career fairs, exposure to four-year colleges and universities, tours of local businesses and industries, information about educational benefits from the military, and training in resume writing, dressing for success, and job interviewing skills.

Partnerships are maintained with a variety of faculty/ staff and other professionals within and around the college community to provide support services and to implement activities that focus on these three major program components.
