ASHEBORO (Jan. 4, 2021)
Four Randolph Community College students recently posted the highest scores in the “Plumbing 1” class and had their tuition reimbursed thanks to Jimmy’s Plumbing & Repair of Archdale. Alex Branson, Jose Martinez, Stephen Cross, and Jose Bautista all completed the course and have a chance to further their education in “Plumbing 2,” which starts Jan. 11.

Plumbers are in high demand in Randolph County and have been deemed “essential” during the COVID-19 pandemic, which means businesses have not closed.
RCC’s “Plumbing 2” course covers the various plumbing systems, designs, and installation. Topics include pipe sizing and layout, water distribution, drainage, waste and vent sizing and layout, and fixture installation. Upon successful completion of the course, students will earn a local credential — an agreement between RCC and industry partners to establish training outcomes recognized as valuable by local employers.
The course (#75621) is Jan. 11-May 5, Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in room 200B of the Administration/Education Building on the Asheboro Campus. The work-based learning course (#75623) is also Jan 11-May 5 with the work schedule and location determined by the employer and student. The cost for either class is $180.55. Completion of “Plumbing 1” or job-related experience is required. Two books are required: “Residential Construction Academy: Plumbing, Second Edition,” and “Workbook for Joyce’s Residential Academy: Plumbing, Second Edition.” These are the same books needed for “Plumbing 1.” Both can be purchased through the RCC Campus Store for approximately $235.
Scholarships are available.
