New Medication Aide course coming to RCC’s Archdale Center, Excel course returning to Asheboro Campus

ASHEBORO (Oct. 22, 2019)

Randolph Community College is offering a new “Medication Aide” course at its Archdale Center in November. At the same time, the College’s popular Microsoft Excel course is returning to the Asheboro Campus.

The “Medication Aide” class is designed to prepare non-licensed personnel with the skills required by the North Carolina Board of Nursing to practice as a Medication Aide in long-term care/skilled nursing facilities within the state of North Carolina. Topics include oral, topical, and instillation medication routes; medical asepsis; hand hygiene; terminology; and legal implications. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to take the NCBON/NNAAP (North Carolina Board of Nursing/National Nurse Assistant Assessment Program) Medication Aide Exam.

Students must:
• Have high school diploma or high school equivalency
• Be 18 years of age
• Have a current listing with the Division of Health Service Regulation as a Nurse Aide I with no substantial findings of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property
• Have proof of completion of a minimum 75-hour, state-approved Nurse Aide I course
• Have a Social Security Card (name must match a government-issued photo ID)
• Have a government-issued photo ID (name must match Social Security Card).

The class (#71935) is Friday-Sunday, Nov. 8-10, from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in room 108 of the Archdale Center, which is located at 110 Park Drive. The cost is $70. A textbook for the course must be purchased in the RCC Campus Store one week before the course begins.

“MS Excel, Basic” is Mondays, Nov. 4-Dec. 9, from 6-9 p.m. in room 106 of the Continuing Education and Industrial Center at 413 Industrial Park Avenue in Asheboro.

In this course (#71930), students will learn to create/edit simple worksheets, work with menus and toolbars, use basic formulas, format entries, merge cells, hide/unhide rows/columns, and learn about date and time functions, text alignment, inserting and deleting columns/rows, freezing/unfreezing cells, splitting the window, and page breaks.

The cost is $70 plus $13 for text.
