RCC offering new Leadership Series led by Marcus

Not everyone is a born leader, so Randolph Community College is stepping in with a new Leadership Series, led by Michael Marcus and starting at the end of this month.

Marcus served as Vice President, Learning and Talent Development for BJs Wholesale Club Inc. before relocating to North Carolina in 2018. He was responsible for driving the vision of ongoing learning and development for a talent base of more than 25,000 Team Members, Leaders, and Executives. He has a BS in Business Management from St. Joseph’s College and an MBA from Dowling College. In his 35 years within the Retail Grocery sector, Marcus has held positions at many levels of leadership, and also serves on The National Retail Federation’s Learning & Development Council and The ACT Foundation’s National Retail Services Advisor Council. Marcus’ focus in all of these roles has been to effectively build, coach, and mentor teams toward the capability and confidence required to execute and exceed expectations.

The first session, “Management Fundamentals,” gives attendees practical skills that will launch their teams — and careers — to new levels of greatness. Knowledgeable and skilled supervisors and managers achieve better business results, improve the quality of work environments, and increase employee satisfaction and retention. Several topics will be covered: Leading Others, Managing Performance, Effective Communication, Decision Making & Delegation, and Change Management. Attendees should be ready to apply what they’ve learned and return to work with new knowledge, insights, and practical methods to help them be successful managers.

The session is Tuesdays, Oct. 29-Nov. 26, from 1:30-5 p.m. (#72038) or from 6-9:30 p.m. (#72050) in room 103 of the Continuing Education & Industrial Center (CEIC) on the Asheboro Campus. The cost is $70.

The second session, “Leadership Effectiveness,” focuses on the challenges leaders face every day on the job and offers solutions to help attendees fully achieve their potential — not just as a manager or supervisor, but as a true leader who commands respect, commitment, and credibility. Regardless of how long a person has been in a leadership role, there is always an opportunity to increase effectiveness and improve leadership abilities. Topics will include: Communicating for Results; Employee Engagement & Managing Performance; Team Building & Growing Relationships; Conflict, Problem Solving & Leading Growth; Time Management & Managerial Courage; and Critical Thinking & Leading Change. Attendees will learn the personal leadership characteristics and skills that spark the kind of energy and enthusiasm that make productivity and performance soar.
