Beginning Yoga Courses to Begin in March at RCC

ASHEBORO (February 27, 2017)

Randolph Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division will offer a “Beginning Yoga” class in March. Two sections are available.

This class is designed for individuals who have never taken yoga or have limited experience. The class will cover foundational poses, introduction to proper breathing techniques, mindfulness and relaxation techniques, and correct body positions. This class will focus mainly on Hatha and Vinyasa style Yoga, along with some Restorative Yoga. Yoga can be linked to improving posture, balance, muscular endurance, core strength, flexibility, weight loss, improve digestion, increase bone and joint health, and help increase relaxation and sleep.

The first section (#60817) will meet on Monday evenings, from 5-6 p.m., March 13 through May 15. No class will be held on April 17. The second section (#60818) will meet on Thursdays, from 4:30-5:30 p.m., March 16 through May 11. The cost is $40.55 per section.
Students need to bring their own yoga mats. The classes will meet in the gymnasium (room 118) of the J.W. “Willie” Plummer Vocational/Technical Center on the Asheboro Campus.

Lauren Deckelbaum, physical education instructor at RCC, will be the instructor. Deckelbaum has a bachelor's in health and physical education, a master's in athletic coaching education, and an educational doctorate in coaching and teaching studies.
