Fire & Rescue Services

If you want to become a firefighter, RCC can help. We have a Firefighter Cadet program each fall and spring, as well as numerous certification and specialty classes.

Fire Academy

This program prepares students for employment as a firefighter, is 614 hours and covers all topics required by the N.C. Fire Commission for certification. It also covers the requirements for HazMat Operations, Driver Operator, Technical Rescue: General, and Technical Rescue: VMR. There is a required physical training aspect to this class. When completed, students affiliated with a department are certified as Level I & II Firefighters. On a space available basis, volunteer firefighters can take individual topics for certification.

Prerequisites: High school graduate (or equivalent), 10th grade reading competency, pass physical exam (student’s own responsibility to obtain) and physical agility test given at the start of the class.

Firefighter Certification Classes

These courses are primarily offered off campus at county fire departments and are designed to help volunteer firefighters obtain training needed for certification.

Rescue Classes

These are for specialized rescue operations. Most classes are offered off-campus at various county locations.
