The Therapeutic Massage Program is designed to provide students with the essential skills to become a State Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist. The curriculum includes the skills necessary for safe, effective and ethical practices required to perform basic Swedish massage.

Students will practice the clinical process of conducting client assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and performing safe and comprehensive massage therapy under the supervision of a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist. In addition, students will exercise their legal and ethical duties according to the regulations and expectations of the massage therapy profession as delineated by the North Carolina Board of Massage & Bodywork Therapy.

Practice What You Preach

Cost: $70
Practice What You Preach is a course in self-care. It encompasses such topics as self-massage, personal massage tools, body movements, meditation, nutrition, and enjoying your passions. This course was designed after the instructor, Kathy Greenfield, suffered an injury she feels could have been avoided by practicing more self-care. If you are a person that gives without giving to yourself, this is the class for you! Discover areas of your life needing more self-care! This process will help you become a better therapist by bringing a balance between care for clients and care for self. This class will provide continuing education hours for licensed Massage Therapists.

Prenatal Massage

Cost: $70.55
This class will teach students not only the usual three trimesters of pregnancy, but also what Doulas refer to as the "Fourth Trimester," which is the time immediately following birth. The pros and cons of massaging during the first trimester will be discussed, as well as areas to avoid, contraindincations, and how to handle the increased flexibility of joints. Students must have satisfactorily completed an approved Therapeutic Massage program or be an LMBT.

Trigger Point Made Simple: Upper Body

Cost: $70.55
Students completing Trigger Point Made Simple – Upper Body will have a thorough understanding of when and why trigger point therapy can enhance their protocols for pain management. They will learn what a trigger point is, how it develops, and understand referral pain so often noted in trigger point development. Assessing the client during intake and knowing key words the client may say will assist in the understanding of when to use trigger point therapy. The student will learn protocols for the upper body for treatment of specific issues. This is an excellent class for therapists wishing to treat specific conditions, as well as those wanting another tool in their bags! This class has been approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork for 8 CEU’s for LMBT’s and is taught by a Board-Approved Continuing Education Provider. Students must have satisfactorily completed an approved Therapeutic Massage program or be an LMBT.

They will learn what a trigger point is, how it develops, and understand referral pain so often noted in trigger point development. Assessing the client during intake and knowing key words the client may say will assist in the understanding of when to use trigger point
therapy. The student will learn protocols for the neck/head/shoulders for treatment of specific issues such as TMJ, Headaches/Migraines, and Torticollis. This is an excellent class for therapists wishing to treat specific conditions, as well as those wanting another tool in their bags! This class has been approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork for 8 CEU’s for LMBT’s and is taught by a Board Approved Continuing Education Provider. Himalayan Salt Stone Massage

Himalayan Salt Stone Massage guides the therapist through the preparation, setup, techniques, and clean-up of Himalayan Salt Stones. Marketing ideas will be presented along with easy add-ons. Benefits and contraindications will be presented. This is a great class for someone working in or considering working in a spa setting. The class will focus on relaxation, but some deep tissue techniques for common conditions will also be shown. This class has been approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork for 8 CEU’s for LMBT’s and is taught by a Board Approved Continuing Education Provider. Students must have satisfactorily completed an approved Therapeutic Massage program or be an LMBT.

Bamboo Massage for All Reasons

Cost: $70.55
Bamboo Massage for all Reasons is both a basic and advanced course rolled into one! After learning the basics about bamboo in general, students will learn both relaxation and deep tissue techniques. They will also learn how to incorporate both techniques to provide focused work for a client with a problem area. This class is about providing a client with the best techniques possible, while taking strain and stress off the therapist’s body. This class has been approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork for 12 CEU’s for LMBT’s and is taught by a Board Approved Continuing Education Provider. Students must have satisfactorily completed an approved Therapeutic Massage program or be an LMBT.

MBLEx Prep

Cost: $70
The MBLEx Prep class will prepare students to sit for the MBLEx (Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination). Topics that will be covered are Anatomy, Kinesiology, Pathology, and Ethics. Prerequisite: must have successfully completed or currently be attending a Therapeutic Massage program.

Continuing Education Refund Policy

Occupational Extension:  A student who officially withdraws from an extension class prior to the first class meeting will be eligible for a 100 percent refund. Also, a student is eligible for a 100 percent refund if an applicable class fails to “make” due to insufficient enrollment. After the class begins, a 75 percent refund shall be made upon the request of the student if the student officially withdraws from the class prior to or on the 10 percent point of the scheduled hours of the class. Students should see their instructor for further details. No refunds will be made after the 10 percent point, even though the student may not have attended all classes up to that point.

Self-Supporting & Community Service: No refunds shall be made for self-supporting or community service classes after start date of class.
