English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)


ESOL is a FREE program for adults whose native language is not English.

The classes teach the students to communicate effectively in English for real life situations (job interviews, job applications, filling in medical forms, citizenship tests, etc.).

Classes cover 3 different levels:

  1. beginning
  2. intermediate
  3. and advanced levels

These are offered at various times (morning, evening, and Saturday) and locations, including churches and schools.

How to enter the program

The first step to start classes is to call 336-633-0152 to sign up for orientation. During the orientation, you will

  • Learn about the program (schedules, initiatives etc.)
  • Ask questions
  • Take 1 or 2 tests to determine your English proficiency
  • Decide with the coordinator which class is best suited for you (based on your proficiency, obligations, and location)

Class Categories:

Free English classes
(Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)

These classes aim at improving students’ language skills. Students of all levels, backgrounds, and languages can enter the program.

Students who enter this program range from adults who never attended school to adults who earned college degrees.

Free ESOL+ (GED preparation)

These classes are aimed for students who have a high English level proficiency. These classes aim to prepare students for Adult Basic Education classes where they will be able to take their General Educational Development diploma (GED).

Free Citizenship class

These classes aim to teach the basics of civics, citizenship, and government in the United States. Preparation for the naturalization test will also be tackled.

Free English & Technology class

This class aims at developing English through technology. Students will create email accounts, send messages, create videos, upload them to youtube...
