Curriculum Scholarships

Thanks to generous donors, the RCC Foundation has numerous scholarship funds to assist Curriculum (college credit) students with their educational pursuits. During the 2010-2011 school year, the RCC Foundation awarded over $113,200.25 to Curriculum students. Another $47,000 was made available to RCC’s financial aid office to award to students with financial aid who do not qualify for Federal or State financial need.

High School Achievement Scholarships

A High School Achievement Scholarship is awarded to one senior at each public high school in Randolph County. The scholarship pays in-state tuition and fees for two semesters of enrollment in a Curriculum program at RCC.

Continuing Education Scholarships

The RCC Foundation offers scholarships to students who are enrolled in occupational training through RCC’s Corporate & Continuing Education division. The maximum award per student is $300 per year. Nearly $16,000 has been awarded to Continuing Education students in 2010-2011.

RCC Pledge

In the summer of  2010, the RCC Foundation started the RCC Pledge program. The purpose of the program is to assist students who are in danger of dropping out of school due to unexpected financial situations. Students must be in good standing and requests are carefully vetted to ensure prudent use of these funds. During 2010-2011, 39 students have been provided a total of $14,305. The RCC Foundation has helped these students with various emergency needs that include not only tuition and books, but also utility bills, car repairs, and gas to get to and from school.

Foundation Ambassador Program

Each year the RCC Foundation accepts the nomination of students meeting specific program requirements and selects five to six students to serve as Foundation Ambassadors, one Asheboro Rotary Scholar and one Randolph Rotary Scholar. These students serve the College by assisting with campus tours and special events. They also promote RCC and the Foundation on campus, in middle and high schools, and in the community. In return for their year of service, Ambassadors and Rotary Scholars receive a $1,500 honorarium.

The 2011-2012 Ambassadors and their programs of study are:

Nick Benfield – Computer Information Technology
Zach Brown – Associate in Arts (College Transfer)
Lee Ann Burkhart – Interior Design
Monique Chouinard – Interior Design
Casey Lamb – Associate in Arts (College Transfer)
Yoselin Perez-Vallejo – Early Childhood Education
Courtney Satterfield – Photographic Technology
Emily Smith – Early College High School/Associate in Arts (College Transfer)

Program Support

The RCC Foundation provides a variety of program support funds to bridge the gap between the needs of the College and the State operating budget. Endowed funds exist with the RCC Foundation to benefit Associate Degree Nursing, Photography Technology, Interior Design, and Machining Technology. Earnings from these endowed funds may be used in these programs as needed. The principal balance remains in the fund. In 2010-2011, $71,172 has been provided to the College to support specific programs. In addition, the Foundation received a grant from Duke Energy that provided $248,000 for a new welding center at RCC’s Archdale Center. The Foundation also has provided $55,000 to RCC for the implementation of the new Medical Assisting program for 2011-2012.
