Randolph Community College’s Student Leadership Academy provides a dynamic, intensive student leadership training/motivational experience to students who are selected in a competitive process by the Student Leadership Academy Committee.
Topics will include the following:
- What is Leadership
- Personality Types and Leadership Styles
- Communication and Leadership
- Ethics and Leadership
Group training sessions will be held on five Tuesday evenings during the school year (light supper served from 5:30-6 p.m.; sessions from 6-8 p.m.) Important dates and session topics are listed below:

January 17 or 19, 2012 - Portfolio Review (individual appointments)
Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 – Session III: Communication and Leadership; Situational Leadershiop
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 – Session IV: Building, Motivating, and Leading Your Team; Leadership & Ethics/Ethical Dilemmas

Tuesday, March 27, 2012 – Session V: Student Presentations; Special Guest Speaker; Graduation. (Reception to follow instead of supper. Students will have the opportunity to invite family members to attend the last session.)
What is required for Academy participants?
• Participants are expected to attend ALL sessions.
(If you have a Tuesday evening class at RCC, you should make arrangements with your instructor to be absent during these sessions and get class assignments in advance.)• Participants will take the personality-type indicator prior to the first session.
• Participants will develop a personal portfolio, which will be reviewed by Human Resource professionals (due by December 2), and meet with an HR representative in January to review.
• Participants will complete a group leadership project and present the project results at graduation.Who may apply?
• Any student enrolled in a curriculum program at RCC with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 is eligible to apply.
• Randolph Early College High School seniors and juniors are also eligible.
How to apply? (Complete both steps)
1. Complete the following one-page electronic application, completely and concisely, and submit to cdhefferin@randolph.edu by 3 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011. You may also print a blank form, print the information legiblyt, and return it to Cathy Hefferin, Office of College Marketing, Administration/Education Center by 3 p.m. on Friday, September 23.

2. Each applicant must also ask one RCC faculty member to submit a confidential electronic letter of reference addressing the student’s leadership potential. This letter is to be submitted by the faculty member directly to cdhefferin@randolph.edu by 3 p.m. on September 23.
Applicants will be notified if they are selected for an interview by Campus Cruiser e-mail by Friday, Sept. 30, 2011. Interviews will take place the week of Oct. 3-7 and applicants will receive final acceptance notices by Campus Cruiser e-mail by Wednesday, Oct. 12.
