Randolph Community College’s
3rd Annual Student Leadership AcademyApplication Deadline:
Friday, Sept. 4, at 3 p.m.The RCC Student Leadership Academy began with a vision from RCC President Robert Shackleford in his first month on the job in 2007. His goal was to provide “a dynamic, intensive student leadership training/motivational experience to a group of students selected in a competitive process that rewards students who give their best to RCC and show the potential for becoming leaders in society.” The first and second Student Leadership Academies were held in April 2008 and April 2009.
This year, the experience has been revamped into four evening sessions to give students more time to focus on specific leadership topics. Those topics will include the following:
• What is Leadership
• Personality Types and Leadership Styles
• Portfolio Review
• Ethics and Leadership
• Leadership in Difficult Situations
• Student Leadership ProjectStudents will meet on four evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. (a light dinner will be provided):
Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 - "About You"
Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 - "How You Present Yourself to Others"
Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 - "Leadership and Ethics"
Tuesday, April 13, 2010 - "Putting It All Together"The last session will include a Graduation Ceremony with a keynote speaker. Students will have the opportunity to invite family members to attend.
Expectations:
Participants are expected to attend all sessions.
Participants will complete an online orientation before the first Leadership Session.
Participants will develop a personal portfolio, which will be reviewed by Human Resource
professionals (due by October 29).
Participants will complete a group leadership project.
Any student enrolled in a curriculum program at RCC is eligible to apply. Randolph Early College High School seniors, juniors, and sophomores are also eligible. To apply for the Student Leadership Academy, please complete the following electronic form, completely and concisely, and submit to cdhefferin@randolph.edu by 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009. You may also print a blank form, fill it out, and return it to Cathy Hefferin, Office of College Marketing, Administration/Education Center by 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4.

Each applicant should also ask one RCC faculty member to submit a confidential electronic letter of reference addressing the student’s leadership potential. This letter is to be submitted directly to cdhefferin@randolph.edu.
Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by Sept. 18, 2009.
