Real Estate Broker Prelicensing (new license)

On April 1, 2006, the Real Estate Commission discontinued issuing salesperson licenses and now accepts applications for broker licenses only. Persons applying for initial licensure (a broker license) will be required to complete a 75-hour broker prelicensing course and pass the state license examination in order to qualify for licensure.
Each newly licensed broker will be classified as a "provisional broker." The provisional broker must, within three (3) years of initial licensure, complete an additional 90-hour postlicensing education program (to be taken as three [3] separate 30 hour courses) in order to retain his or her broker license (and terminate the "provisional" license status). Students must pass the final exam in this course with a score of 80 or better and complete 80% of the total class hours to receive a certificate of completion.

Postlicensing Education for Brokers

If you had a broker license issued or reinstated on "provisional" status on or after April 1, 2006, you must complete three 30-hour postlicensing courses within three years after licensure. All three 30-hour courses will be offered during a year at RCC.

• You may take all three courses at one time but you must complete at least one course each year.
• When you have properly completed the three postlicensing courses, the "provisional" status of your broker license will be terminated.
• You do not receive continuing education credit for any postlicensing education.
