This course provides a basic study of the structure and function of the human body. The curriculum consists of objectives from Appendix E of the 1998 Release of the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Paramedic: NSC. Topics include a basic study of the body systems as well as an introduction to homeostasis, cells, tissues, nutrition, acid-base balance, and electrolytes. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the fundamental principles of anatomy and physiology. This course is a prerequisite for EMS 3031, Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Initial, can be taken as an elective for the Medical Office Assistant Program.

The reports to be transcribed include history and physical examinations, radiology reports, operative reports, pathology reports, requests for consultation, death summaries, discharge summaries, and autopsy reports with an introduction to HPIP and SOAP reports. This class is structured in a way that allows the student with a home computer system and access to the Internet to complete it with no additional costs.
