HVAC
There are three HVAC courses recommended: Fundamentals of Heating Technology, Fundamentals of Air Conditioning & Refrigeration and HVAC Code Preparation. Fundamentals of Heating Technology is recommended as the first course in the sequence but is not a prerequisite or requirement. HVAC Code Preparation should be taken last or by someone with considerable experience. All HVAC students should take Basic Electricity before enrolling in the HVAC courses and/or have substantial experience with electrical load calculations and troubleshooting electrical systems.
Fundamentals of Heating Technology
($60+)
This course provides practical and technical training for heating technicians including basic physics, fuels, combustion, heating mediums, heat load calculations, equipment, and troubleshooting. The course covers small heating units, gas, oil, and heat pump systems.

This course covers fundamental physics of heating and cooling in addition to the technological considerations in cooling and cooling equipment. Basic instruction includes refrigeration systems, components and equipment, accessories, refrigerants and reclamation, basic electricity, and motors. While the Fundamentals of Heating Technology course is recommended, it is not a prerequisite.

AHR3030A 90778 - 6:30-9:30P, TTh, 10/6-11/24CFC Refrigerant Recovery/Recycling Cert.
This course is designed to aid technicians in preparing to take the CFC recovery/recycling certification examination. Basic knowledge and experience in the profession is important. The examination will be administered on the last day of class and forwarded to the N.C. Board of Refrigeration Examiners.
- Students must preregister at least 10 days prior to the class.
- Costs include: $75 registration & material fee to RCC, and $25 application fee sent to the Board of Refrigeration Examiners (not collected by RCC).
- All students should take the Universal Exam, regardless of licensure classification. Students will receive credit for all sections passed.
