The following courses will be offered:
- SPA 111, 112, 211, 212, 161 and possibly SPA 231 Reading and Composition taught by Danielle Richardson and the Costa Rican Language Academy.
- HUM 120 Cultural Studies and PHI 240 Introduction to Ethics to be taught by Todd Thompson
While in Costa Rica the students will go on the following scheduled trips:
- Café Britt -- Coffee plantation
- Sarchi -- Sarchi, known throughout Costa Rica for its beautiful and intricate arts and crafts and souvenirs. It is perhaps most widely recognized for its colorful and decorative oxcarts that have been made here for over a century.
- Grecia -- This town is an important tourist destination mainly due to its unique metal church, which is a deep dark red color. The Cathedral de la Mercedes is a gothic style church made from metal pieces that were imported from Belgium in the 1890s. This church is as beautiful from the inside as it is impressive from the outside. Besides the church, the Grecia Regional Museum is also worth a visit as well. North of central park is an insect and butterfly museum, which is home to over 50,000 different insects and butterflies.
- El Teatro Nacional in San Jose -- The nation’s architectural showpiece, the national theatre, on the south side of Plaza de la Cultura, is justifiably a source of national pride.
- Museo Nacional in San Jose -- The national museum or Museo Nacional is located in an old fort, which was marked by bullet holes during the 1948 Civil War. There are many artifacts at this museum.
- El City Tour -- Students will be given a guided bus tour of where different landmarks are located around San Jose.
- Lancaster Gardens -- Botanical Gardens
- Turi Bari y Arial Tour (Rainforest) -- The Rain Forest Aerial Tram will take you on a two-hour fascinating ride through the tall tropical tree-tops that offers you the chance to see wildlife found only within the canopy system.
- Weekend trip to Volcán Arenal -- The Arenal Volcano is the only volcano in Costa Rica constantly active since it woke up after 400 years with the big 1968 eruption producing huge ash columns, explosions & glowing red lava almost every day. It is considered one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world.
- Weekend trip to Pacific Coast
