Small Business Center Series Continues
at Randolph Community College in February

 

ASHEBORO, N.C.—Randolph Community College’s Small Business Series continues in February. This series of 15 one-session courses, offered by RCC’s Small Business Center, will take you through the process of starting a small business. Participants are encouraged to take all the courses in the order they are offered, but courses may be taken individually. The registration fee is $5 for each class. All classes meet from 6 – 9 p.m.

On Monday, Feb. 3, a class called Cash Flow Part 1—Let Your Numbers Do the Talking will be held on the Asheboro Campus. In this class, students will learn how to construct realistic cash flow statements by developing good financial assumptions. The class will be held on the Archdale Campus on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Students can learn to understand basic financial ratio analysis in Cash Flow Part 2—Do My Numbers Work? This class will be held on Monday, Feb. 10, on the Asheboro Campus and on Tuesday, Feb. 11, on the Archdale Campus.

Basic Bookkeeping for Your Small Business will help students learn the connection between cash flow projections and the bookkeeping system created for a business. Other topics include posting checks written to the monthly cash disbursement journal, posting receipts to the monthly cash receipts journal, and how good bookkeeping practices give a clear snapshot of a business’ health. It will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, at the Asheboro Campus and on Tuesday, Feb. 18, on the Archdale Campus.

Tax Planning & Reporting will be held on Monday, Feb. 24, at the Asheboro Campus and on Tuesday, Feb. 25, on the Archdale Campus. This course focuses on tax reporting responsibilities. Students will become familiar with tax procedures and forms that owners must file to comply with state and federal regulations for reporting business activity.

Also in February, but not part of the course series, is a Notary Public Education class, which will be held from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m., Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 10 and 12, on the Asheboro Campus. This class is required for individuals interested in obtaining a North Carolina commission as a notary public. The purpose of a notary is to prevent fraud and forgery. Learn what you may and may not do as a notary public. Students must be 18 years of age and speak and write English. A textbook is required and will be available for purchase at the first class. The registration fee is $50.

In addition to these courses, Victor Dau, director of RCC’s Small Business Center in Asheboro, provides free expert advice for starting your small business. Dau is available at the Archdale-Trinity Chamber of Commerce office on the first and third Fridays of every month from 9 a.m. – 12 noon, and at the Asheboro Campus at other times.
