Small Business Center Series Continues
in September in Asheboro and Archdale

 

ASHEBORO, N.C.—Small business owners and those aspiring to become one can take advantage of a series of Randolph Community College Small Business Center courses that take you through the process of starting a small business. Thirteen one-session courses will be offered throughout the fall semester on both the Asheboro and Archdale campuses. Participants are encouraged to take all the courses in the order they are offered, but courses may be taken individually. The registration fee is $5 for each class. All classes meet from 6 - 9 p.m.

On Tuesday, Sept. 2, a class called “Cash Flow Part 1-Let Your Numbers Do the Talking” will be held on the Asheboro Campus. In this class, students will learn how to construct realistic cash flow statements by developing good financial assumptions. The class will be held on the Archdale Campus on Thursday, Sept. 4.

“Basic Bookkeeping for Your Small Business” will help students learn the connection between cash flow projections and the bookkeeping system created for a business. Other topics include posting checks written to the monthly cash disbursement journal, posting receipts to the monthly cash receipts journal, and how good bookkeeping practices give a clear snapshot of a business' health. It will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Asheboro Campus and on Thursday, Sept. 11, on the Archdale Campus.

Students can learn to understand basic financial ratio analysis in “Cash Flow Part 2-Do My Numbers Work?” This class will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16, on the Asheboro Campus and on Thursday, Sept. 18, on the Archdale Campus.

“Tax Planning & Reporting” will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Asheboro Campus and on Thursday, Sept. 25, on the Archdale Campus. This course focuses on tax reporting responsibilities. Students will become familiar with tax procedures and forms that owners must file to comply with state and federal regulations for reporting business activity.

“Legal Considerations for Starting Your Small Business” will cover topics such as comparing tax and nontax aspects of different entity choices, permits and licenses, zoning laws, insurance, intellectual property laws, providing a safe workplace, contracts, professional advisors, and record keeping. This class will be held Monday, Sept. 29, on the Asheboro Campus and Wednesday, Oct. 1, on the Archdale Campus

Also in September, but not part of the course series, is a “Notary Public Education” class, which will be held from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m., Monday and Wednesday, Sept. 8 and 10, on the Asheboro Campus, and Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 15 and 16, on the Archdale Campus. This class is required for individuals interested in obtaining a North Carolina commission as a notary public. The purpose of a notary is to prevent fraud and forgery. Learn what you may and may not do as a notary public. Students must be 18 years of age and speak and write English. A textbook is required and will be available for purchase at the first class. The registration fee is $50.

A free seminar is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 6 - 9 p.m. entitled “In Pursuit of Excellence.” This highly effective course takes participants through a step-by-step process to enhance professionalism and build enthusiastic confidence. It will be held on the Asheboro Campus.
