Washington D.C., Photographer To Show Work
On Oct. 23 At Randolph Community College
ASHEBORO, N.C.--On Thursday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m., Washington, D.C.,
photographer Amy R. Boles will present a digital slide show of her work
for the Smithsonian's Office of Architectural History and Historic Preservation.
The presentation will be in the Photography Imaging Center on the Asheboro
Campus of Randolph Community College. The public is invited to attend.
Her presentation will feature work from a project that was funded by
a grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Arts. The
project documents the extensive renovation project of the Patent Office
Building in Washington. From a visual perspective, this renovation involves
the stripping away of objects and temporary additions, leaving light and
space as the dominant subjects. Over the past two years, Boles has been
creating a portrait of the Patent Office Building during this unique moment
in its history.
The building is a visually striking example of architect Robert Mills'
work during the mid-19th century in Washington. Since 1958, the Patent
Office Building has housed the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery
and National Museum of American Art.
Boles received her MFA in photography from Indiana University in Bloomington
in 2000. Her work has appeared in numerous venues including the Houston
Center for Photography, the Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, the Pentimenti
Gallery in Philadelphia, and The New York Times. She currently lives and
works in Washington.
RCC's Asheboro Campus is located at 629 Industrial Park Drive. Take
the McDowell Road exit from Highway 220 Bypass.
