Introductory Medical Office Assistant
Classes set to Begin Sept. 8 & 15 at RCC

ASHEBORO, N.C.—According to the U.S. Department of Labor, employment of medical records and health information technicians is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2010, due to rapid growth in the number of medical tests, treatments, and procedures which will be increasingly scrutinized by third-party payers, regulators, courts, and consumers. Randolph County residents looking to get into this field can get training at Randolph Community College starting in September.

“Introduction to Medical Office & Medical Terminology I & II,” an introductory class to RCC’s Medical Office Assistant program, begins Sept. 8 on the Archdale Campus and Sept. 15 on the Asheboro Campus. The Archdale Campus class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m., through Feb. 4. The Asheboro Campus will offer two sections on Mondays and Wednesdays, one to meet from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and the second to meet from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m., Sept. 15 - March 10. Costs include a $65 registration fee and the cost of a textbook.

Students are expected to have computer skills in file management, word processing, spreadsheet, keyboarding, data input, and Internet/web-based activities before registering.

RCC’s Medical Office Assistant program has received certification from the National Healthcareer Association for each of its three tracks: Medical Transcriptionist, Billing & Coding Specialist, and Medical Administrative Assistant. Students completing one of the tracks will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible to test for certification as Certified Medical Transcriptionist, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, or Certified Billing & Coding Specialist.
