Three RCC Students Participate In International
Public Speaking Competition
ASHEBORO, N.C.--Three Randolph Community College students recently
competed in the Sandhills' branch of the English-Speaking Union's 2004
International Public Speaking Competition. Andrea Cavallier, Byron Gladden,
and Kandace Landers, all Associate in Arts (College Transfer) students
from Asheboro, presented strong speeches, according to Amanda Rivers,
English instructor and chair of the General Education department at RCC.
The students had to create original speeches focusing on the theme "A
Borderless World" for their presentations. Each student worked diligently
with guidance from two RCC communication instructors, Mary Chesson and
Lee Houston, in their preparation.
The winner of the competition competed at the international finals in
London. RCC student Kandace Landers was chosen at the first alternate
and received a cash prize.
This was the first year that RCC was invited to participate in the competition.
"All three students were strong representatives of this community,"
said Rivers.
