Randolph Community College PTK Chapter
Achieves Five Star Status
ASHEBORO, N.C.--Beta Theta Rho, Randolph Community College's
Phi Theta Kappa chapter, has achieved Five Star Status under PTK's Five
Star Chapter Development Program. The program is, in effect, a business
plan designed to provide every chapter a step-by-step guide to optimizing
benefits and programs offered by PTK.
Phi Theta Kappa is the only internationally acclaimed honor society
serving two-year institutions which offer associate degree programs. The
organization serves to nurture its members and associates by sponsoring
meetings which educate, stimulate, and enrich. The Society affords international
recognition to students of distinguished achievement and provides a vehicle
which reflects the academic integrity of the associate degree program.
In order to be members of the society, students must carry a full-time
course load and maintain a G.P.A. of 3.5.
"To become a five star chapter in just four short years is absolutely
astounding," said RCC President Richard Heckman at a recent reception
held for the chapter. Beta Theta Rho was chartered in 1999.
The award was announced at the PTK Carolinas Regional Conference in
Charlotte in March. Beta Theta Rho also was awarded the Most Improved
Chapter in the Carolinas Region for 2004, a Certificate of Excellence
for Distinguished Achievement in Regional Programs, Carolina Superstars,
and the One Clover Chapter Award for "Helping Kids Conquer Cancer."
Carol Savchak and Waymon Martin, Randolph Community College instructors
and PTK advisors, were presented Horizon Awards for their leadership roles.
