Small Business Center Series Continues In June
In Asheboro and Archdale

ASHEBORO, N.C.--Small business owners and those aspiring to become one can take advantage of a series of Randolph Community College Small Business Center courses that take you through the process of starting a small business. Twelve one-session courses are being offered throughout the summer session on both the Asheboro and Archdale campuses. Participants are encouraged to take all the courses, but courses may be taken individually. The registration fee is $5 for each class. All classes meet from 6 - 9 p.m.

On Tuesday, June 3, a class called "Cash Flow Part 1-- Let Your Numbers Do the Talking" will be held on the Asheboro Campus. Cash flow is the lifeblood of any small business! If you don't have cash flow to pay the bills, your business won't survive. Learn how to construct realistic cash flow statements by developing good financial assumptions. The class will be held on the Archdale Campus on Thursday, June 5.

Learn the connection between cash flow projections and the bookkeeping system created for business in "Basic Bookkeeping for Your Small Business" on Tuesday, June 10, in Asheboro. This class will be held on Thursday, June 12, on the Archdale Campus. Students will learn to post checks written to the monthly cash disbursement journal, to post receipts to the monthly cash receipts journal, and how good bookkeeping practices give a clear snapshot of a business’ health.

"Cash Flow Part 2 -- Do My Numbers Work?" will help you understand what you do with all the numbers from a business. Will your business be successful? Learn to understand basic financial ratio analysis. It will be held on Tuesday, June 17, at the Asheboro Campus and on Thursday, June 19, on the Archdale Campus.

"Tax Planning & Reporting" will be held on Tuesday, June 24, at the Asheboro Campus and on Thursday, June 26, on the Archdale Campus. An important step in staying out of trouble as a business owner is understanding tax reporting responsibilities. In the government's eye, ignorance of the law is no excuse for failing to comply. Become familiar with tax procedures and forms that owners must file to comply with state and federal regulations for reporting business activity.

Also in June, but not part of the course series, is a "Notary Public Education" class, which will be held from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m., Monday and Wednesday evenings, June 9 & 11, on the Asheboro Campus. This class is required for individuals interested in obtaining a North Carolina commission as a notary public. The purpose of a notary is to prevent fraud and forgery. Learn what you may and may not do as a notary public. Students must be 18 years of age and speak and write English. A textbook is required and will be available for purchase at the first class. The registration fee is $50. This class also will be held at the Archdale Campus from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m., Monday and Tuesday evenings, June 23 & 24.

And if you want to take some courses on-line, RCC's Small Business Center will offer three Ed2Go courses beginning Wednesday, June 18. They are "Creating a Successful Business Plan," "Introduction to QuickBooks," and "Performing Payroll in QuickBooks." These classes cost $55 each.
