Randolph Community College Students Sweep
Triad Student Addy Awards

ASHEBORO--Randolph Community College Photographic Technology and Advertising & Graphic Design students dominated the student award category of the 2003/04 Ad Club of the Triad ADDY Awards recently. The category was new to the Triad ADDY awards this year.

Second-year commercial photography student Stacey Haines of Greensboro won Best of Show, Judges Choice for Photography, two Blue Embers, and two Red Embers. Cathy McKenzie of Jackson Springs, an RCC Advertising & Graphic Design student, won Judges' Choice for Collateral Material and a Blue Ember for a holiday card she designed. Crystal Staley of Siler City, also an Advertising & Graphic Design student, won Judges' Choice and a Red Ember for Motion Graphics. Staley also won a Red Ember for Direct Mail.

Other Randolph Community College Advertising and Graphic Design students winning awards were Rhiannon Henley of Asheboro, Red Ember for Stationery; Michael Hogan of Asheboro, Red Ember for Collateral Material and Red Ember for Campaign; and Krista Cordell of High Point, Red Ember for Campaign.

The Ember Awards student competition recognizes outstanding student advertising and design work, while providing a means for ad agencies and design firms to view up-and-coming talent. The Blue Ember is equivalent to a Gold ADDY while the Red Ember is equal to the Silver ADDY.

Randolph Community College's Advertising & Graphic Design students have been actively involved with the Ad Club of the Triad for several years under the direction of RCC program head and instructor Susan Shaw, working behind the scenes at the ADDY Awards. In addition to entering this year's competition, the students developed promotional materials for this year's ADDYs and helped with the logistics of the event. In addition, RCC Photographic Technology student Jacob "Jake" Garmon of Asheboro, photographed the winners for ADDY Winner's Book.

Students in Randolph Community College's Advertising & Graphic Design and Photographic Technology programs work together on many visual design projects.
