RCC Business Students Offer Free Tax Help
To Area Residents Through VITA Program

ASHEBORO, N.C.--Randolph Community College students will offer free tax help for Randolph County residents during March through the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The VITA program will be available to the general public from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturdays, March 8, 15, 22 and 29, in the meeting room at the Randolph County Public Library on Worth Street.

The VITA program is offered by the Taxpayer Education Division of the Internal Revenue Service, and the participating RCC business students are trained by VITA educator Leola Yates. All RCC Business Technology students are being invited to participate this year. RCC students have been involved in the program since 1990.

Tracie Hayes, accounting instructor and VITA coordinator for RCC, said the service is both a valuable experience for the students and a chance to provide a service to the community. RCC is in the process of making this project a regular part of the curriculum. Hayes was a VITA volunteer as a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

For more information, contact Hayes at (336) 633-0291.
