Explore Your Family Tree This Fall
With Classes at RCC’s Archdale Campus

ARCHDALE, N.C.—Randolph Community College’s Archdale Campus will present two genealogy workshops this fall, with a third class being offered on-line through Ed2Go.

“Creating Your Family Tree” will help you prepare a family tree book for family reunions by using your ancestors’ stories and old photographs. The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1 - 4 p.m., Aug. 26 - Sept. 11. Cost is $50. Basic typing and computer skills are recommended for this class. The class will also be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 - 9 p.m., Nov. 17 - Dec. 3.

If you already have been researching your ancestors to preserve your genealogy, “Retouching & Hand Tinting Old Photographs” will help you with your photos. The class will focus on enhancements and corrections on dust spots and lint squiggles, distractions in the background and reducing eyeglass glare, as well as sharpening the eyes, nose, and mouth in slightly out-of-focus photos with wet dyes. Hand tinting and selective hand tinting on black-and-white fiber and mat surface papers with transparent oils will be covered also. Registration for the class is $50. It will be offered two times in September, Mondays from 6:30 - 9 p.m., Sept. 15 - Nov. 10, and Thursdays from 1 - 3:30 p.m., Sept. 18 - Nov. 6.

If you are a newcomer to this hobby or just want to make a small family tree, the “Genealogy Basics” on-line course will get you off to a good start. You will explore many Internet sites where you can search for family names. The course explains in simple terms where to look, who to contact, and how to use the genealogical research tools of the computer and the Internet to further your research. Cost is $60, and the next class starts Sept. 17. This Ed2Go course runs for six weeks and consists of 12 lessons. The lessons are supplemented by interactive quizzes, assignments, tutorials, and on-line discussion areas.
