RCC Welcomes New Staff
ASHEBORO, N.C.—Several new faculty and staff members have
joined Randolph Community College in the past several months.
Evelyn L. Hoover has been hired as an instructor in the Associate Degree
Nursing program at RCC. A native of Suffolk, Va., Hoover earned a diploma
from the Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Baltimore. She went on to earn
her B.S.N. and M.S. from the University of Maryland School of Nursing,
and is currently working on her dissertation for her Ph.D. from Binghamton
University in Binghamton, N.Y. She was awarded the Clark Fellowship from
Binghamton University for 2000-03 and the Cynthia B. Northrup Award for
Community Health in May 1999 by the University of Maryland Graduate School.
She earned the Etchnerger Award in 1997 from the Maryland Public Health
Association. Hoover is a member of the Provident-Helene Fuld Nurses Alumni
Association, the American Public Health Association, the Rural Nurses
Organization, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurses Honor Society.
She lives in Greensboro with her husband, Reginald. She is the daughter
of Walter L. Porter of Suffolk, Va., and Edna R. Bullock of Hampton, Va.
Tracy Marino has joined RCC as an Interior Design instructor. Originally
from Demarest, N.J., Marino earned a B.A. in interior design from Marymount
University in Arlington, Va. Most recently, she has been running her own
design business, but has worked as an interior designer in New Jersey
and Washington, D.C. She also taught design at Berkeley College in New
Jersey. She is a member of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification,
which serves to identify to the public those interior designers who have
met the minimum standards for professional practice by passing the NCIDQ
examination. She lives with her husband, Sal, in Greensboro. They have
two daughters. She is the daughter of Terri and Ernie Ahr of Hilton Head,
S.C.
Carol J. Howard is RCC's new clinical coordinator for Radiography. She
worked at High Point Regional Hospital as MRI supervisor for 18 years
and at Thomasville Hospital as an x-ray chief technician for 7 years.
A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Howard earned a B.S. in biology from Greensboro
College in 2000, graduating summa cum laude. Her other training includes
Ft. Sanders Presbyterian Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, where
she earned the highest academic award. She lives in High Point with her
husband, William (Lin).
Eva C. Greene and Brent Kidd have joined RCC as Campus Store assistants.
A native of Asheboro, Greene earned an associate degree in Business Administration
from RCC last August. She was a recipient of the Sprint academic scholarship
through the RCC Foundation in fall 2001 and spring 2002. Greene previously
worked at Dillard's in Greensboro as a sales associate for a year, at
Jockey International for 10 years, and at Rampon Products for four years.
She lives in Asheboro with her husband, Jessie; they have two daughters.
She is the daughter of Pecolua Evans of Trinity. Kidd, of Ramseur, was
employed by Black & Decker for 12 years and most recently employed
at Dillards. A native of Coleridge, he earned an A.A. degree from Sandhills
Community College and an A.A.S. in Business Administration from RCC in
2001. While in school he was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society
and was a USA Today Academic Team nominee. Kidd is the son of Norman and
Lou Elma Kidd of Coleridge.
Kevin Kvalvik has joined RCC as an instructional designer with the Center
for Teaching Excellence. Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Kvalvik was
most recently employed as an instructional tech. for the University of
Montana Western. He also worked for Asheville City Schools as tech. director
and was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University. Kvalvik earned a B.S.
in performing arts from Appalachian State University, and earned an Ed.M.
in Technology in Education from Harvard. He also received training from
the Kenned School of Government and M.I.T. He has served on the National
Planning Committee for Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers with Technology and
was a team leader for the Advisory Team to American University in Puerto
Rico. He is a member of the American Association of Compensatory Education,
the Society of Instructional Technology in Education, the International
Society of Learning Sciences, and the International Society of Technical
Education. He is the son of Ruth Cleveland of Anchorage.
Terri J. Conklin of Archdale has joined RCC's Archdale Campus as part-time
coordinator for the evening hours. Conklin is originally from High Point,
but lived in Everett, Wash., for many years where she graduated from Oak
Harbor High School. Terri took classes in math and computers at Davidson
County Community College, studied small business management at Everett
Community College, and studied accounting and general business at Skagit
Valley Community College in Oak Harbor, Wash. Conklin has worked as a
general manager for Jags Plus, a dealer of Jaguar parts and repairs in
Everett; was a shipping clerk for Continental Printing in Seattle; and
worked as a purchasing and customer service clerk at Femco in High Point.
She is the daughter of Richard and Jean Mullis of Archdale.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has appointed two new school resource
officers for RCC in recent months. Roger Hunt grew up in Randleman and
is a Vietnam veteran, serving in the infantry of the U.S. Army for two
years. He worked as a deputy tax collector for the Randolph County Tax
Department for over three years, then spent 21+ years as chief park ranger
and animal keeper for the North Carolina Zoological Park. Roger earned
his BLET certificate from RCC in 1984. He has worked for over five years
for the Randolph County Sheriff's Department as a school resource officer.
He also has been an active reservist for 12 years. Hunt and his wife,
Judith, live in Asheboro. Scott Warren of Liberty has been with the Randolph
County Sheriff's Department since June 1. Before that, he worked as a
pest technician with Terminex and Dodson Pest Control. A native of Staley,
Warren graduated from Eastern Randolph High School. He lives in Liberty
with his wife, Stephanie, and two children. He is the son of Richard Warren
of Staley.
