Randolph Community College Offers
Noncredit Bookkeeping Program
ASHEBORO, N.C.--Randolph Community College is offering a Bookkeeping
program featuring noncredit courses for individuals desiring to develop
or upgrade their clerical skills, but who do not wish to earn college
credits.
A noncredit certificate may be earned in Advanced Office, Bookkeeping/Accounting,
and Legal Office Assistant. Certain basic courses are required, then students
take specific courses depending on what option is chosen, plus a choice
of electives.
Courses are being offering both on the Asheboro Campus and on-line.
In September, RCC will offer a “Business Math/Calculator Use”
course, which focuses on basic math as applied in the business setting.
Students will calculate percent markup, convert between decimal figures
and percentages, and learn the touch system of using a standard 10-key
calculator. Choose from two classes on the Asheboro Campus, the first
from 8 - 11 a.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 8 - 24, and the second
from 6 - 9 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 9 - Oct. 2. The next on-line
class will be available Sept. 16 - Oct. 18. The registration fee is $55
plus text.
“Records Management” will be offered on-line from Sept. 6
through Oct. 11. A second class will begin in November. In this class,
simulated business documents provide hands-on practice which prepares
students for clerical positions involving filing and retrieving business
documents. The registration fee is $55 plus text.
Three courses specific to the Bookkeeping/Accounting track will be offered
this fall. “Basic Accounting Principles” will meet from 8
- 11 a.m., Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from Sept. 8 - Oct. 27, or
from 6 - 9 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 9 - Nov. 18, on the Asheboro
Campus. In this course, students will learn to establish a chart of accounts,
classify accounts, analyze transactions, maintain general ledgers, prepare
closing entries, reconcile the bank statement, and prepare financial statements.
The on-line version of this course will be available Sept. 6 - Nov. 1.
Cost is $60 plus text.
A “Bookkeeping Certification Review” course will be offered
from 7 - 9 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 22 - Oct. 13. This class
will prepare a student to take a test to become a certified bookkeeper
through the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. Cost is $50.
Also, students can take a “Payroll Accounting” class on-line
beginning Sept. 6 through Nov. 8. This class will cover computing wages/salaries,
determining employee/employer payroll taxes, recording journal entries
for payroll transactions, preparing a payroll register, posting from the
register to the employees' earnings records, and preparing W-2 forms.
Cost of this class is $60, and completion of Business Math/Calculator
Use and Basic Accounting Principles are prerequisites.
