‘Practical Mechanics’ Class Leads
Basic Industrial Maintenance Series at RCC

ASHEBORO, N.C.—Randolph Community College will offer a basic series of maintenance courses this fall in a format and time frame that enable students to complete a concentrated course in a specific maintenance topic in one week. This format is designed to minimize disruption in work and personal schedules as compared to less concentrated courses meeting over a longer period of time.

The courses introduce basic concepts, theories, and principles with a concentration on practical application of skills being taught. Students completing the courses will have basic maintenance skills that may be applied immediately upon returning to the job. These courses are ideal for employees participating in an apprenticeship or other internal training programs who have a need for basic maintenance skills followed by some type of supervised on-the-job instruction. All the classes will be held on the Asheboro Campus.

The first class, “Practical Mechanics,” is designed to enhance the student’s knowledge of basic mechanics as it relates to the proper maintenance and operation of mechanical equipment. Instruction covers a broad range of topics related to mechanical equipment operation such as basic terms of maintenance, torque, bearings, lubricants, mechanical drives and couplings, and bolts and fasteners. Students also will earn how to properly use measuring devices such as feeler gauges, micrometers, and vernier calipers to set machines to proper operating specifications.

The class (#0303581) will meet Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Sept. 15 - 19. The instructor will be Rancie Moore. The registration fee is $60.

Additional classes to be offered this fall include Basic Electricity, Basic Hydraulics, Basic Pneumatics, Machining Fundamentals, Mechanical Blueprint Reading & Measurement Instruments, and Basic Welding.

To preregister for the Practical Mechanics class or for more information on the series, call RCC at (336) 633-0267 in Asheboro or (336) 862-7980 in Archdale.
