'Tribute To Freedom' Concert Planned
For April 25 At RCC

ASHEBORO, N.C.--On Friday, April 25, Randolph Community College will host a "Tribute to Freedom: Seeds of Peace" concert featuring the folk group Molasses Creek at 7 p.m. in the Learning Resources Center auditorium on the Asheboro Campus. The concert is in honor of the 12 RCC student and faculty members who are currently deployed in the Persian Gulf.

Based on Ocracoke Island off the coast of North Carolina, Molasses Creek is a high energy acoustic folk-fusion band who delights their audiences with foot-stomping bluegrass, ballads, and a bit of wacky humor.

The concert is sponsored by "Uwharrie Dreams," RCC's fine arts magazine; the Student Government Association; and Common Threads. Although there is no charge for the concert, contributions of any size will be accepted for the George Tonkin endowed scholarship fund. Donations are tax deductible.

The concert is made possible by funding from Dr. Alan Luria, in memory of George Tonkin; the Student Government Association; and the Bill Thompson Fund.

The program will recognize the soldiers’ families in the audience and the family of George Tonkin.

RCC faculty members Tim Allen and Gerald Hampton are warm-up performers with an instrumental on the mandolin and hammer dulcimer. Photography instructor Chuck Egerton will show a short multimedia presentation on the theme of peace.

Molasses Creek has tailored their concert to the patriotic theme with a nostalgic World War I song and other music celebrating freedom and peace.

The concert will end with a candlelight ceremony in the courtyard of the LRC.
