RCC NEWSRandolph Community College Photography Graduate Wins Photo of the Year Award ASHEBORO (November 16, 2006) – Amelia Phillips of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock, a 2004 graduate of Randolph Community College’s Photographic Technology program, was awarded Photo of the Year honors by the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association (SNPA) Foundation recently. She won for a photo of a girl and her brothers saying goodbye to their father before he left for Iraq. Phillips’ photo, which also placed first in the spot news category, was judged to be the best because of its technical quality, originality and overall aesthetics. She received a $1,000 prize and an engraved award. According to a SNPA news release, judges said Phillips “captured the emotion on the face of the girl as she and her brothers hug their father goodbye. There is a wonderful warm light in this picture that highlights her tears and also draws us into her sadness. The simple composition represents the singular emotion.” RCC’s Photographic Technology program offers four concentrations: Biocommunications Photography, Commercial Photography, Photojournalism and Portrait Studio Management. For more information on how to enroll in classes, contact the Information Center at (336) 633-0200 in Asheboro or (336) 862-7980 in Archdale or visit the Web site at www.randolph.edu. -END-
