Tara Gunter to attend state leadership program

Tara Gunter, Associate Degree Nursing instructor at RCC, has been accepted to the 2006-07 North Carolina Community College Leadership Program.

The NCCCLP was created in 1989 to provide an interdisciplinary approach to leadership training through professional development. Its purpose is to develop future community college leaders in North Carolina.

The program focuses on developing leadership skills of community college employees at all levels; assists colleges in identifying, motivating, and training women and minority employees; informs potential leaders about the history, structure, and governance of the
community college system; promotes opportunities for networking among employees in the community college system; and provides a diverse pool of qualified leaders in community college education.

The seven-month program offers participants organized, face-to-face and computer-based learning experiences to acquaint them with community college issues and to help them develop leadership skills. The program’s structure is built on the platform that good
leaders develop through an ongoing process of self-study, education, training, networking and experience. It begins with a fall retreat this month and ends with a graduation ceremony in April 2007.

Gunter joined RCC full time in August 2004. She had previously worked as an adjunct instructor for RCC since 2001. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and finished her MSN at UNC-Greensboro in December 2004. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau international honor society for nursing and the North Carolina Associate Degree Nursing Council.

The parish nurse for Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church since June 2003, Gunter lives in Asheboro with her husband, Randy, and two children. She is the daughter of Daryl and Shirley Richardson of Asheboro.
