“The RCC Small Business Center helped me follow my dream.”

A Nicaraguan-American with an education in electronics engineering, William Vargas dreamed of starting his own business. He was working as a contractor installing satellite dishes when he signed up for the Entrepreneurship in Spanish course at Randolph Community College.

After completing a business plan as part of the class, William opened CompuLatino, a business specializing in computer installation and repairs for Spanish speakers.

William’s new business is booming, and he credits his success to the things he learned in his Small Business Center classes. “I took every free course the college has,” he laughed. Most of RCC’s Small Business Center classes, on topics from business plans and marketing to bookkeeping and taxes, are offered free of charge. “The financial and sales areas are the most important areas of a business,” continued William, who noted his RCC classes were very helpful in those areas and he took advantage of free one-on-one counseling with Victor Dau, director of RCC’s Small Business Center.

He actually took RCC’s Entrepreneurship class twice and is planning on taking it a third time. “I always pick up new ideas, or re-learn something I forgot,” he said.
