Sheriff Maynard Reid
“The instruction and education that I received (at RCC) has helped me tremendously throughout my career.”
Maynard Reid is serving his first term as Randolph County Sheriff, but he’s not new to law enforcement – he’s a 29-year veteran. Reid earned an associate degree in business administration from Randolph Community College in 1972 and worked as a credit manager at the hospital for five years before a friend talked him into trying law enforcement. He joined the Asheboro City Police Department in 1978 and joined the Sheriff’s Office in 1990. He took his Basic Law Enforcement Training at Davidson County Community College, but has completed thousands of hours of in-service training at RCC.
Reid said he was student government vice president his first year at RCC and president of the SGA the second year, so he gained some leadership experience and worked closely with then RCC President Merton Branson and administrators Larry Linker and Allan Edwards. And his business administration degree has proven invaluable. “RCC has been good to me,” said Reid. “The Sheriff’s department has a budget of about $12 million so you have to know a little about business management in the administrative end of law enforcement.”
Sheriff Reid is active in the Randolph Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow. He is precinct chairman for the Republican Party in Randolph County. Reid and his wife, Sandra, live in Asheboro.
