Kathy Thornburg

Kathy Thornburg"I lost my job due to the plant being moved overseas. I decided to look at this as an opportunity and go back to school (at RCC)....The instructors were always ready to help and encouraged me not to give up."

After working at the Black & Decker plant in Asheboro for 10 years, Kathy Thornburg lost her job when the company moved its operations overseas. “I decided to look at this as an opportunity and decided to go back to school,” she said. “I completed several Continuing Education classes and completed diploma program in Office Systems Technology.”

Kathy was one of the first students at RCC to complete the Medical Office program and also earned her Nursing Assistant certificate.

While she was in school, Kathy was hired as an administrative assistant for Corporate and Continuing Education at RCC. “I have a passion for our students and I truly enjoy what I do,” she says. And she continued her education and earned an associate degree in Office Systems Technology from RCC in May 2009.

“I would highly recommend RCC to everyone,” she continued. “My daughter graduated from RCC with her associate degree, and my son will be attending RCC in the fall.”
