Katherine Davis

“I have been able to apply the knowledge I gained at RCC in everyday situations with the children, and the school gave me new ideas for the center.”

Katherine Davis has been the director of The Growing Place Childcare Center at First Baptist Church for 11 years and has worked there for 13. She says she chose to attend Randolph Community College because of the "convenience and the hometown atmosphere."

Katherine had already started school at GTCC in August 1997, when RCC established its early childhood education program in spring of 1998. She transferred, and since she was working full time, she attended classes part time in the evenings and graduated in 2001.

An Asheboro High School graduate, Katherine said she didn't go to college right out of high school because of finances. She and her mother were living on a fixed income. Before her current job, she managed Little Caesars Pizza in Asheboro for six years. She also worked part time at The Growing Place and for Ramseur After School Program.

She is the youngest of seven children and is the only one to graduate from high school. Katherine is now pursuing her bachelor of arts in early childhood education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Katherine and her husband, Rayvon, live in Asheboro with their two children, Dawson and Fallon, and her mother, Icy Carter.
