Lail was awarded Trustee Emeritus status for his “exemplary and significant service and contributions to Randolph Community College.”
Jack Lail of New London was honored by the Randolph Community College Board of Trustees Thursday night with Trustee Emeritus status. The honor was conferred by Board Chair Mac Sherrill during the Board’s regular bimonthly meeting.
The purpose of the designation, which was established in September 2007, is to recognize exemplary and significant service and contributions to Randolph Community College and to retain the designee’s affiliation with the College, explained Sherrill.
Lail retired from the Board of Trustees on Sept. 1, 2011, with over 16 years of service. During his time on the Board, Lail served as chair for over two years, vice chair for over four years, and chair of the Budget and Finance/Building and Grounds Committee for several years.
Prior to his service on the Board of Trustees, Lail was on the RCC Foundation Board of Directors for over 14 years, serving as both president and vice president of that board.
“Jack’s total service to the College in board memberships is over 30 years,” said Sherrill, who presented Lail with an engraved clock as a memoir of his commitment to the College.
“When you said 30 years, I thought you were giving me credit for having been an ad hoc instructor,” joked Lail in accepting the award. “I didn’t realize it was that long. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, and I’m proud of what RCC has done.”
Other Trustee Emeriti are N.C. Senator Jerry Tillman and Martha Johnson, who were both awarded the designation in November 2007.
