Elbert J. Lassiter, plant manager for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., has been appointed to serve a four-year term on the Randolph Community College Board of Trustees. Lassiter was appointed to the Board by N.C. Governor Beverly Perdue and took his oath of office in July.

Lassiter said one of his goals as a Trustee is "to get a better understanding of the College's direction and support that direction. I realize the importance of the community college in our community, especially in this economic climate." A former RCC student (he took some business courses at RCC in the 1970s), Lassiter said he didn't initially go to college after high school, so he realizes the importance of an education. "I understand the qualifications you need for the workplace," he said. "Education is the great equalizer."

Lassiter was raised in Randolph County and graduated from Southwest Randolph High School. He earned a bachelor of science in business and management from Shaw University.

He is very involved in the community. Lassiter is chairman of the Asheboro Boys & Girls Club and vice chair and member of the board of the Randolph County Partnership for Children. He is also a member of the North Carolina Partnership for Children, is active in the United Way and the Chamber of Commerce, and is a Rotarian.

Lassiter is a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Siler City, where he serves as a deacon and is on the Christian Education Board for the General Baptist State Convention. He enjoys golf and is a high school football official.

Lassiter lives in Asheboro with his wife, Rose. They have two children, April Lassiter and Doug Brewer.
