RCC Foundation Scholarship Auction Earnings & Photo Winners Announced

Dr. Stuart Fountain, a State Community College Board member and a member of the RCC Foundation Board, looks over the photos that were auctioned at the Foundation's Scholarship Auction & Gala Dinner on May 2. The proceeds fund scholarships for local Randolph Community College students.

 


Randolph Community College Foundation's Scholarship Auction & Gala Dinner on May 2 at Pinewood Country Club attracted 79 people and raised over $10,000 for the Community Scholarship Fund, according to Joyce Wolford, executive director of the Foundation.

The scholarships are awarded to Randolph County students who attend RCC, and preference is given to students who are the first in their families to attend college.

Thirty-one photographers entered 104 photographs in this year's competition. The final results were announced at the Gala. Dan Routh of Franklinville won Best in Show for "Climax," 1st place Places for "Julian Seed Cleaner," and 1st place Illustration/Digital Darkroom for "Wheelbarrow." Jacqueline Willis of Randleman won 1st place Nature for "Sleeping Cat." Kristin Backhaus of Raleigh won 1st place Youth for "Inter Loop." Other winners in the sixth annual Photo Competition were Eric Abernethy of Asheboro – "Chipmunk" 2nd place Nature and "Dismantle" 2nd place Places; Steven McBride of Asheville – "Dreaming of Tarzan" 2nd place Illustration/Digital Darkroom; Kristi Thomas of Randleman – "Prism" 2nd place Youth.
