Each year the Professional Photographers of North Carolina hold a convention and print photo competition. Randolph Community College had two students and one graduate who received awards. This year it was held from Friday, Feb. 28 to Wednesday, March 1 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Raleigh. The convention consisted of numerous meetings, photography-based classes, judging events, banquets, and an auction.
Approximately 500 images were entered in the competition. Second-year RCC Photographic Technology student Karen C. Smith of Lexington and second-year student Alla Campanella of Greensboro were each awarded Gold Corners for their images. Janice Clewis of West End, a 2008 graduate of RCC's Photography program, also merited with one of her images.
