Deadline is Jan. 9 for Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship

ASHEBORO (December 15, 2008)

Randolph Community College students and recent graduates who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university in fall 2009 may be interested in applying for the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program.

In April 2009, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will award approximately 50 scholarships of up to $30,000 a year to outstanding students transferring to four-year colleges and universities in fall 2009.

To be eligible for the program, a candidate must
• be a current student at an accredited U.S. community college or two-year institution with sophomore status OR a recent graduate (within the last five years),
• have a cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent),
• plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to begin studies in the coming fall,
• be nominated by his or her two-year institution, and
• have unmet financial need.

Guidelines and application materials are available on the Foundation's Web site at www.jkcf.org. Please note the Foundation does not accept applications directly from students.

Randolph Community College may nominate two students. Students who are interested can submit their application to RCC. All application material should be submitted to Jerry Simpson, vice president for student services, at jlsimpson@randolph.edu and must be received by Friday, Jan. 9, 2009.
