Randolph Community College Debuts Entrepreneurship Program

ASHEBORO (July 25, 2008)

Randolph Community College in Asheboro will be the first community college in the Triad to offer a new Entrepreneurship program this fall, a program designed to provide students with the knowledge and the skills necessary for employment and growth as self-employed business owners.

Because of the current economic climate, this program was fast-tracked by the North Carolina Community College System for any community college in the state. Randolph Community College is one of five colleges debuting the program this fall. Others include Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, Catawba Valley Community College, Haywood Community College, and South Piedmont Community College.

Randolph will offer both an associate degree and a certificate in Entrepreneurship. The associate degree is for the person who wants to know about business in general as well as the specifics of self-employment. This two-year curriculum (or three when completed in the evening or online) offers training in the nuts and bolts of business - things like franchising and importing/exporting. Most of the courses will transfer to a four-year college or university.

The certificate program consists of four hybrid courses, which require minimal class attendance and allow completion of the majority of coursework online. It can be completed in two semesters, and is ideal for people who already own their own businesses or those with some business background who want to build on those skills.
