Students wishing to enter Randolph Community College's evening training course for Basic Law Enforcement must have their application and other required forms submitted to the College by Thursday, July 31, in order to register for the fall semester.
Registration for classes will be Aug. 13 and 14 and classes begin on Aug. 18, but students in the BLET program have additional application requirements, including obtaining medical and sponsorship forms. Students applying to the BLET program must be U.S. citizens, must be 20 years of age or obtain a waiver from the director of the N.C. Criminal Justice Standards Division, must have a valid North Carolina driver's license, must pass a medical physical exam, must have a clean criminal record (minor violations only), and must obtain a sponsorship from a N.C. law enforcement agency.
Tuition is waived for students in this program, but students are responsible for approximately $32 in activity fees and the cost of books.
Students have only two chances a year to enter this program, which is taught at the state-of-the-art Emergency Services Training Center near the Cedar Falls community. The evening class begins in the fall and runs through the spring semester. The daytime program is offered in the spring semester only.
This program uses State-commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include criminal, juvenile, traffic and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations. The BLET program is designed to give students essential skills for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private businesses.
To obtain an application packet with the required forms, contact Don Clark, ESTC dean and BLET director; Max Benbow, assistant director; or Lori Alston, administrative assistant, at 336-633-4165.
